about

At the beginning of the 2020 lockdown, Stephen James Buckley, aka Polypores, bought himself a SNES Mini - and spent a lot of time on it. Largely unfamiliar with console games, he was soon drawn headlong into sprawling RPGs such as Zelda and Earthbound, worlds you can get lost in for days. He found there was something oddly comforting about the fractal repetitions and pixelated sunsets; though far from realistic, they held a beguiling beauty, a strange logic all of their own.

Stephen's music is often written in response to environments, so it was inevitable that his adventures in these vibrant computer- generated landscapes would somehow be reflected in the music he was making at the time. The modular synthesiser compositions on this album originally started out with no particular intention in mind, but as time passed it became clear he was creating sound worlds to compliment the pixelated terrain he had become so immersed in.

'Buckley is vanishing into his own worlds, and we should be grateful for these charming postcards from his modular mind palace' - Electronic Sound

about

Polypores Preston, UK

Polypores (aka Stephen James Buckley) paints music with a modular synthesizer, drawing influence from ambient, new age, and experimental electronics. It soars, bubbles, crackles, and soothes, in ever-shifting, immersive cosmic landscapes. Dream environments and sonic sculptures.
