Details below:

It is with immense pleasure that Golden Ratio Frequencies announces our 15th label release, EVER CURIOUS, from the musical mind of prolific POLYPORES (aka Stephen James Buckley).

Buckley has been creating what he dubs as “immersive cosmic sleep-music” and “sci-fi soundtracks” since 2014. With over 22 releases in the last six years—including a streak of sold-out albums on labels such as Castles in Space and Miracle Pond Records—and now, hot on the heels of his recent stellar release on the Frequency Domain label, lucky for us, the sonic wellspring that is POLYPORES shows no signs of slowing down.

With EVER CURIOUS, POLYPORES brings us four pieces of longform modern contemporary “Nu-New-Age” music, harking back to the flourishing 1980s American New-Age cassette music movement, yet with sights firmly set ahead on the modern electronic horizon.

In this latest work, POLYPORES presents some of his most meditative yet playful work to date, engaging our imaginations with an hour of blissful, soaring synth work, bubbling sequences, and textural modulated sound.

“I essentially wanted to do something that captured the feeling of wonder that comes from exploring nature,” says Buckley. “The excitement in learning new things about the universe we live in. It's something that a lot of people lose as they grow up. I certainly did from my teens onwards.”

“But in recent years, I've rediscovered it and have changed how I approach life to reflect that. It's about regaining that child-like curiosity. It's Bob Ross' ‘Joy of Painting’ and Carl Sagan's ‘Cosmos’. And I've found that working with modular synthesizers is a great way to put me in that state of mind, due to the experimental and often unpredictable nature of the machines. It puts me in a good place.”

Since recording these POLYPORES pieces in late 2019, our world has changed dramatically, making Buckley’s words and the creative intent behind his latest endeavour all the more meaningful. Let EVER CURIOUS collectively transport us beyond the physical confines of lockdowns and social distancing, to the swirling psychic soundscapes that we can trip through together in a calm, yet ecstatic trance.

Physical copies will be available on limited pro-dubbed C60 cassette, with on-body print, full-colour double-sided four-panel inlay, and screen-printed Golden Ratio Spiral acetate.
